As oil exploration and production pushes into new geological formations, deeper waters and hotter reservoirs, Proxima HTI advanced materials offer an attractive pathway to find and extract these challenging resources.

The unique curing process of Proxima HTI resins produces a hydrocarbon thermoset that is stable in hot/wet conditions, while maintaining mechanical integrity and insulating performance. Proxima HTI polymers provide simple, cost-effective, and reliable thermal insulation systems for deep and ultra-deep flowlines, field joints, and equipment, even in HPHT environments.

Unlike competing systems like pipe-in-pipe or subsea cooling technology, Proxima HTI thermosets reduce costs and simplify operations for HPHT projects in ultra-deepwater.

Proxima HTI

Proxima HTI subsea thermal insulation supports production of subsea reservoirs with oil temperatures up to 400°F (204°C) without resorting to pipe-in-pipe or subsea cooling technology, reducing cost for projects in ultra-deepwater.

Features and Benefits. The Proxima HTI subsea thermal insulation system provides a cost-effective solution to customers requiring high-temperature subsea flowlines and equipment.

Up to 400°F and depths >10,000 feet
Low water absorption
Low temperature flexibility
Castable in double joints, requiring fewer field joints
Identical line pipe and field joint material for full compatibility
Compatible with HT epoxy coatings

High Performance, No Compromises

  • Wet Insulation. Specially designed for use as wet insulation for subsea flowlines, field joints, and equipment, Proxima HTI has been rigorously qualified for HPHT subsea environments.
  • Thermal Conductivity. The thermosetting cross-linked hydrocarbon does not melt or degrade in superheated water and provides a robust thermal barrier between high temperature flowlines and cold seawater.
  • System Integrity. Unlike other systems that use multiple materials causing compatibility issues, Proxima HTI system is a unified flow assurance system for flowlines, field joints, and equipment that can be rapidly applied in both factory and field settings.

Properties and Highlights

Though Proxima thermosets can be formulated to meet a range of performance targets, the core attributes of Proxima HTI systems align with demanding ultra-deepwater and HPHT performance needs.

Novel Hydrocarbon Thermosets

Through our unique catalytic process that produces Proxima HTI resins, our materials outperform traditional thermoplastics and thermosets. Proxima HTI resins won’t react with water and won’t melt under hot/wet conditions.

Proxima HTI Syntactic Foam for Subsea Thermal Insulation

Proxima HTI syntactic foams deliver a superior alternative for projects up to 325°F for deepwater fields requiring excellent thermal protection. Incorporating hollow glass microspheres in the casting process with Materia’s HTI Proxima resin generates a thermal insulation material with state-of-the-art thermal and mechanical properties. With the low thermal conductivity (as low as 0.11 W/mK) of our materials, our customers can eliminate up to one-third of the insulation thickness.

Very low thermal conductivity
Low temperature flexibility
Low water absorption
Castable in double joints, requiring fewer field joints
